United had approval under Development Consent (DA-410-11-2002-i) to produce up to 2.95 million tonnes (2.95 MT) of saleable coal per annum until the end of 2012.  However, in 2009 the then Xstrata Coal (now Glencore) announced that United would mine the last of the currently approved economically recoverable underground reserves in the Woodlands Hill Seam within CCL775 following the completion of Longwall 10.  In March 2010, the United site entered into a period of care and maintenance and subsequently commenced exploration and pre-feasibility works for future mining potential. See the Project section for further details.
